The Night Parade - Ronald Malfi

Although this story does have a creepy factor so far it seems more Suspense/Thriller than Horror.  That might change though as things ramp up.

It reminds me a bit of Firestarter (one of my favorite Stephen King books).  A man and his daughter on the run, the young girl special in a way that makes her valuable to powerful people.

The story unfolds with the pair already on the run and at the start we don't know why or from whom.  Preceding events are told in occasional flashback chapters so that as we go along we're given more and more information as to what is going on and what has led up to where we are now.

In my opinion this technique is used effectively and the writing is very good.  I haven't read anything by this author before, and I am now wondering why.
